In 2025, the IHU ICAN organized a Scientific Day dedicated to cardiometabolic diseases for its scientific community, within the Faculty of Sciences of Sorbonne University, with the support of GIRCI Île-De-France and the participation of NovoNordisk and Boehringer Ingelheim.

This event brought together researchers, clinicians, and external experts to discuss recent advances in the fields of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, providing the ideal conditions for promoting knowledge exchange and inspiring young researchers.
A program dedicated to cardiometabolism
The day began with opening speeches by Professor Stéphane Hatem (Director General of IHU ICAN) and Anne-Marie Armanteras (Chair of the Board of Directors), who emphasized the importance of collaborative research and innovation in the medical field.
The opening lecture, presented by Jean-Sébastien Silvestre, Director of the Paris Cardiovascular Research Center (PARCC), focused on research in “Cardio-immunology: at the heart of immunity.” This session highlighted the complex interactions between the immune system and cardiovascular diseases.
The first session of oral presentations, dedicated to research on metabolic diseases and moderated by Jérémie Gautheron and Dr. Chloé Amouyal, presented cutting-edge research. Among the speakers, Dr. Tatiana Lecot-Conan shared her findings on the use of machine learning and metabolomics to identify metabolic signatures of polycystic ovary syndrome. Other presentations covered a variety of topics, such as age-related metabolic disorders and mitochondrial dysfunction, illustrating the diversity and depth of research in this field.
The second session, focused on clinical research in cardiology, was moderated by Nadjia Kachenoura and Prof. Estelle Gandjbakhch. Participants learned about innovative studies, such as the computational fluid dynamics analysis of blood flow in the left atrium in patients with atrial fibrillation, presented by Louis Parker. This session also included a presentation on findings in periungual capillaroscopy in patients suspected of having microvascular angina, highlighting recent clinical advances.

The afternoon featured a scientific poster presentation session, offering young researchers the opportunity to present their work and exchange ideas with experts. This interactive session provided an opportunity to discover promising research and encouraged discussion and collaboration among participants.
The third session of oral presentations, focused on fundamental and translational research in cardiology and moderated by Laurent Kappeler and Marie Lagouge, presented advanced research work. Among the presentations, Laetitia Rialland shared her research on splicing variants in hypertrophic cardiomyopathies. The presentations illustrated the importance of translational research in bridging the gap between fundamental discoveries and clinical applications.
The day ended with a lecture on microvascular endothelial cells in adipose tissue, presented by Anne Bouloumié from the Institute of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases in Toulouse.
An awards ceremony followed, recognizing the best oral presentations and posters by young researchers.

The jury awarded prizes to four research projects (two best oral presentations and two best scientific posters) based on a set of predefined criteria (impact of the project, appeal, clarity, relevance, originality, scientific quality, quality of the oral presentation, responses to questions, etc.). Congratulations to the winners!
